Two Hawaiian Restaurants You Must Visit; Best in U.S.

19 November 2008

Two restaurants in Honolulu have been named among the top 40 eating establishments in the United States by the Gayot Restaurant Travel Guide.

Chef Mavro, located on 1969 South King Street in Honolulu, has been named this year among the Top 40 Restaurants in the United States by Gayot for the third time.  The restaurant is known for its dedication to local Hawaiian food and culture, and is a must-see for anyone visiting the island wishing to get a true taste of good, authentic Hawaiian cuisine.

According to owner Chef George Mavrothalassitis, “As a chef, a Gayot rating is huge because food is their focus, and I’m always proud for the state of Hawaii when my restaurant earns national recognition.”

A new less prestigious, but no less respectable, category brought another local Honolulu restaurant into Gayot.  Ono Hawaiian Foods on 726 Kapahulu Avenue in Honolulu was named among the “Top 40 Cheap Eats” in the country.

In 1998 Ono Hawaiian Foods was also rated “Excellent” by customer reviews in the Zagat Survey.  Their focus is also on authentic Hawaiian cuisine.

In Las Vegas we are lucky enough to have four of the Gayot top 40 restaurants only to be out done by LA and New York; but considering the size of Hawaii that’s pretty impressive. Will have to check out both of these next time I’m in Hawaii.
